The Presidio Pop Up food trucks end their spring and summer season on Saturday, October 31. The Presidio Trust's own vendor page lists a Fall/Winter season running November 1, 2026, through March 31, 2027. So what is there to eat near the Main Post this weekend, and what will be there in two weeks?
The honest answer is that most of the newest food in the park is partway through opening. The big new food hall is serving a fraction of what it launched with. The trucks are switching seasons with no published lineup. A building near the Letterman campus has been dark for two years while it waits for a brewery. The Presidio's restaurants arrive one lease at a time, and this fall several of those leases are partway through.
The Mess Hall at the Presidio opened on Saturday, August 15, at 201 Halleck Street. The San Francisco Standard reported that the building went up in 1897 as a depot and storage facility and was later moved within the park to its current spot overlooking Crissy Field.
The opening plan was ambitious. Eater SF described three restaurants sharing the hall. Boda serves Korean and Asian-inflected dishes, Dayboat Seafood runs a raw bar plus cooked dishes like Dungeness crab sandwiches, and Breadwinner does sandwiches and burgers. The hall also has a café pouring Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, a bar and a picnic market. James Beard Award winner Peter Serpico consulted on the menus. He told Eater that "Breadwinner is our East Coast deli, kind of a New York bodega." Founding partner Nate Leonard told the same outlet the idea was a family-friendly room where "mom and dad can get drinks from the bar, and the kids can order food from the kids' menu."
Demand showed up right away. SFGATE reported that the hall took 2,000 orders in its first six hours. During the opening week, the shared kitchen got so backed up that staff paused taking orders just before 2 p.m. SFGATE also noted that the bar is run by Ezra Roberts of Verjus, and that the market stocks Cowgirl Creamery cheese and Queens kimchi.
The lineup has narrowed since then. The Infatuation's review, dated August 20, found only Breadwinner open among the three restaurants, along with the market and café. The Mess Hall's own homepage now reads "Currently serving BREADWINNER: Burgers, Sandwiches, and Salads - from 11am-Close." The Boda page says "Coming Soon," and the Dayboat page lists no hours or menu.
The posted hours as of this week:
| Part of the Mess Hall | Hours posted on messhallpresidio.com |
|---|---|
| Café, Wrecking Ball coffee and Breadbelly pastries | Daily, 7 a.m. to close |
| Market | Sunday to Thursday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. |
| Breadwinner | 11 a.m. to close |
| Bar | Sunday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. |
The Presidio Trust's Mess Hall page still describes all three restaurants, so the hall's homepage is the best guide to which counters are serving on a given day.
The Presidio Trust has to cover the park's costs, and that's why its food scene fills in so unevenly. In its July announcement of the Fieldwork lease, the Trust described the park as financially self-sustaining, funded by "its real estate and hospitality businesses." The park counts 15 places to eat, more than 350 businesses and more than 3,000 residents.
That means each restaurant is a negotiation between an operator and the Trust, and the timing follows the deals. Eater SF reported in 2021 that Arguello and The Commissary closed after the Trust switched those properties from contract operation to leases and the two sides couldn't agree on terms. At 1 Letterman Drive, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in December 2024 that Sessions at the Presidio would close that month and that Piccino would take over the address. Piccino Presidio is now listed there.
The food trucks work the same way on a smaller scale. Vendors apply to the Trust season by season. The Fall/Winter 2026–27 application deadline was August 2, and the selected vendors haven't been posted yet. The weekly schedule currently stops at Sunday, October 25. Last winter's schedule gives a baseline. The Trust's November 2025 holiday update listed trucks on the Main Parade Lawn daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The spring and summer roster added four vendors this year: Kona Ice, Bao Bao Express, Swahili Spot and WhatCoffee & Bakery. Those names may or may not carry over. The Favianna Rodriguez ground mural of Presidio plants, insects and birds stays on the Main Post no matter which trucks park beside it.
The lease process is easiest to see at 563 Ruger Street, near the Lombard Gate and the Letterman campus. Presidio Social Club opened there in 2006 in former military barracks. The Chronicle reported that it served its last customers on May 12, 2024.
The building has been empty since then. In early July 2026, the Trust announced a lease with Fieldwork Brewing Company for the whole property, which has about 5,370 square feet indoors, a 1,780-square-foot deck and on-site parking. It will be Fieldwork's third San Francisco location, after China Basin Park and Mission Rock. The plans include a full food menu and a brunch service. In the Trust's lease announcement, Daryl Ansel, its interim director of commercial asset management, called it "the park's first taproom." The opening is projected for early 2027.
The San Francisco Standard reported that the brewery plans to renovate the kitchen and add private event space. The taps will feature Fieldwork beers such as its hazy IPA Pulp and its imperial stout Death Will Tremble, plus wines from its Fieldwork Cellars label. Cofounder Barry Braden told the Standard, "We're really excited to be planting our flag."
For anyone coming in through the Lombard Gate, the closest restaurant building stays closed through this winter. It opens once the renovation is done.
The restaurants that aren't changing are the ones that have already signed their leases and opened. The Trust's current dining directory lists these places alongside the Mess Hall:
| Restaurant | Location | Service listed by the Presidio Trust |
|---|---|---|
| Colibri | Presidio Officers' Club, 50 Moraga Ave. | Lunch and dinner seven days, weekend brunch |
| Dalida | 101 Montgomery St. | Lunch Tuesday to Friday, dinner Tuesday to Sunday, weekend brunch |
| Piccino Presidio | 1 Letterman Dr. | Weekday lunch and dinner, weekend brunch |
| Il Parco | Presidio Transit Center | Coffee and pastries, lunch and later-day food |
Dalida's page lists Wednesday through Sunday at the top, but its detailed schedule also includes Tuesday, and the Trust suggests confirming hours on Dalida's website. Piccino sits at 1 Letterman Drive, on the Letterman side near Fieldwork's future home. Colibri is inside the Officers' Club, which also hosts history exhibits and events.
The free events on the park calendar in November land on the same Main Post lawns as the food:
One thing to keep in mind is that Main Post access and safety construction runs from July 2026 into winter 2027. The Trust warns of noise, detours and heavier traffic around the Visitor Center area.
On the morning of the November 7 festival, the Mess Hall café is posted to open at 7 a.m. and Breadwinner at 11 a.m., and the Pop Up will be running its Fall/Winter season on the Main Parade Lawn.
