Things to Do

Pioneer Park sits at the crest of Telegraph Hill, and is well worth the visit for a stunning panoramic view of the city and bay. Most of the five acres consists of a steep, tree-covered hillside. At the summit is Coit Tower, a San Francisco icon. A climb to the top of this soaring tower provides excellent views of the city, while the bottom levels are lined with beautiful New Deal-era murals.

The summit of this hillside park can be reached by climbing the Filbert and Greenwich Steps. Residents lovingly tend to the gardens and greenery lining the famous Filbert Street Steps, ensuring that all locals can enjoy a scenic climb to the top of Telegraph Hill. The lesser-known Greenwich Steps begin at one end of Telegraph Hill and traverse several blocks of the neighborhood before ending at the park summit. Locals can enjoy great city views and beautiful gardens along both sets of steps as they climb, with plenty of places to stop for a rest or a picture along the way.

Another unique feature of the neighborhood is the Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill, which have made a home in the lush trees for over 30 years. The flock has grown to the hundreds, and residents can see the beautiful tropical birds in the trees and gardens around the hilly neighborhood.
